Search for Missing Canoeist Along C. Indiana River

GENEVA, Ind. (AP) – Authorities say they'll resume searching Monday for a canoeist who was reported in a central Indiana river.

Indiana conservation Officer Angela Goldman said witnesses along the Flatrock River in Shelby County about 25 miles southeast of Indianapolis reported seeing a person hanging onto the side of an overturned canoe Sunday afternoon.

Goldman says rescue units from the Shelby County Swift Water Rescue Team, conservation officers and local police and fire departments brought boats to the area to search the stream for hours while others searched the river shore nearby, but no one was found.

She says the search was halted at nightfall and would resume Monday morning.

Goldman says the identity of the canoeist wasn't immediate known.
