SE Indiana Police Officer’s Gravestone Defaced

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (AP) – Police in southeastern Indiana are trying to find who spray painted a slur on the gravestone of an officer who died in a 2005 crash.

The vandalism to Lawrenceburg Detective Sgt. Thomas Cochran's gravestone was discovered Saturday at River View Cemetery in the nearby town of Aurora. The vandalism included the spray painting of the word “pig” in yellow paint over the black stone marker.

Cochran was killed in a January 2005 crash on an icy road while on his way to an emergency call.

Tomya Cochran tells WKRC-TV she believes the vandalism is a complete dishonor of her father.

Lawrenceburg police Lt. Brian Miller tells WCPO-TV that whoever was brave enough to deface the gravestone should be brave enough to accept responsibility.
