Ritz Considering 3rd Party to Review ISTEP+ Scores

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ State Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz says she is considering bringing in a third party to review ISTEP+ testing scores after a problem-plagued week.

The Indianapolis Star reports says Ritz told administrators and teachers during a teleconference Friday that the state is going to be wrestling with the validity of the scores because of concerns from the public and others. That’s because testing on Monday and Tuesday was halted because of computer problems and the number of students taking the tests were cut in half the next three days to try to avoid further troubles.

She also said she doesn’t like high-stakes testing where one test is involved in evaluating schools and is a factor in evaluating teachers.
