Resignation Expected from Mayor Charged with Paying for Sex

BATESVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ City council members in the southeastern Indiana community of Batesville are soon expecting the resignation of the mayor charged with paying for sex.

An attorney hired to handle the matter told council members at a Tuesday meeting that the resignation was expected as soon as Wednesday. Council members also said they were considering legal options if Mayor Rick Fledderman doesn't step down.

City Council member Gene Lambert has been serving as acting mayor since the arrest earlier this month of Fledderman.

He was charged with patronizing a prostitute. A probable cause affidavit says Fledderman found Randy Wigle-Stevens of Indianapolis through a website. Police allege Wigle-Stevens, who has HIV, sought more money after learning Fledderman was mayor.

Wigle-Stevens was charged with prostitution, intimidation and failure to disclose dangerous communicable disease status.
