Reported Gunman not Found on Ball State Campus

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ Ball State University and Muncie police haven’t found anyone fitting the description of a gunman reported near the school’s library.

Ball State spokeswoman Joan Todd says police searched the campus and the surrounding area for two hours Monday.

She says it’s possible the student who reported the gunman was mistaken.

Ball State students were alerted via text message to find a “safe place” soon after the gunman was reported. The university issued an all-clear about 9:20 a.m.

Todd says the university followed standard protocol and that students are instructed during freshman orientation about what emergency alert instructions mean.

The text alert said a white man with a medium build was seen walking near Bracken Library with what appeared to be a handgun in his left hand.
