Report: Fort Wayne Zoo discharging tank water into Shoaff Lake

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A popular Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo attraction is apparently dirtying the water at a Fort Wayne park.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) recently found that the sea lion tanks at the zoo are being inappropriately discharged into Shoaff Lake at Franke Park, according to 21Alive.

The IDEM says it’ll need to be fixed. Zoo officials reportedly told inspectors they believed the discharge was going to the city’s wastewater treatment plant, not the lake. The Zoo is looking into ways to correct the problem, like connecting to nearby city sewer lines.

The IDEM says they won’t be issuing any fines or punishment.
