Remains found in northwest Ohio confirmed to be human

CELINA, Ohio. (WOWO): Remains found in a Mercer County, Ohio park are indeed human. That’s the ruling that investigators announced Friday.

Hikers found the human remains near Grand Lake-St. Marys in Celina about two weeks ago.

Officials say foul play is suspected. They say the bones belonged to a 20 to 35 year old man that stood anywhere from 5’7 to 6’1 tall. It’s unclear what the race is, but they believe the bones were placed in the park within the last six months.

The bones were tested at a forensic lab in Ohio, where they also determined there were some animal bones mixed in. The lab also confirmed that a full skeleton wasn’t found.

A cause of death and a possible DNA will be determined when the bones are sent to a lab at the University of North Texas.

There weren’t any missing persons reports in Mercer County at the time, and investigators are asking you to report any missing persons in the last year to law enforcement.
