Religious Leaders Rebuke Pence, Bosma Long Over Law Fix

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): A group of conservative religious leaders have rebuked Gov. Mike Pence and the leaders of the Republican-dominated General Assembly for changes to Indiana's religious objections law that they claim threaten religious liberties.

An open letter issued by the Indiana Pastors Alliance also was addressed Monday to House Speaker Brian Bosma and Senate President Pro Tem David Long. It accuses them of a “cowardly capitulation'' to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

The letter written by Alliance Executive Director Ron Johnson also accuses the LGBT community of intolerance, saying it demands “that people of faith celebrate a lifestyle which is expressly forbidden by God in the Scriptures.'' Johnson planned to hold a news conference Monday afternoon.

Bosma says the religious law change was needed to save jobs threatened by boycotts.
