Redesign planned for I-465, I-69 interchange in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Planning work is starting for an overhaul for the busy interchange of Interstates 465 and 69 on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

The Indiana highway department said Tuesday that the project includes building a new high-speed, two-lane ramp for traffic going from eastbound I-465 onto northbound I-69. The plans also include adding ramp lanes in each direction on I-465 for its interchanges with I-69, Allisonville Road and Keystone Avenue.

Officials say the project is estimated to cost $50 million and is aimed at easing congestion and improving safety in the corridor used by more than 165,000 drivers a day.

The highway department says preliminary design work is to begin next year, with construction expected to start in 2020.
