Red Panda Cub Reaches Critical Milestone at FW Children’s Zoo

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Now 30 days old, the red panda cub born at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo on June 9 has passed a critical milestone. Animal experts say about half of red pandas die within 30 days after being born. This is the third litter of cubs Xiao has given birth to with her mate Junjie. But none of those cubs survived longer than two weeks. Don't get your hopes up quite yet, though…you won't be seeing the cub any time soon. The path to the red panda exhibit remains closed to minimize disturbances for the new family. The cub has more than tripled her birth weigh; now weighing about one pound.
