Record Road Construction Planned for Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP): Ohio transportation officials say $2.5 billion in road construction projects scheduled this year is a record.

The Ohio Department of Transportation announced the plan for 936 projects Thursday for this year's construction season.

The agency said the projects will be partially paid for with $1.5 billion produced by the Ohio Turnpike. Another $600 million in savings from the agency's operational budget have also helped put several delayed projects back on track. Much of that work will begin this year.

The work includes five different projects along the Turnpike, and major work on Interstate 71 and Interstate 75 throughout the state.

Ohio Department of Transportation director Jerry Wray tells The Columbus Dispatch that “we are working at capacity.”
