Rain and flooding continue tonight into Wednesday

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Unfortunately, we’ll see rainfall continue through tonight as a cold front moves through. Expect another 1 to 2 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible in locations that see periods of heavier rain. Then comes the next problem: falling temperatures.

We could see temperatures drop into the 30s by the time Wednesday morning’s commute starts, meaning there’s the possibility of already-damp roads and bridges freezing, along with a chance of a wintery mix before the system moves out for good.

In the meantime, as of 1:30 p.m., the Allen County Highway Department reported the following roads have been affected by high water:

  • Paulding Road from Morgan Road to State Line Road (new)
  • Grissamer Road from Wesley Chapel to US 33
  • Griffen Road from Auburn Road to Hollopeter Road
  • Cook Road from Butt Road to Felger Road
  • Fogel Road from County Line Road to McComb Road

If you’re concerned about water rising on your property, the Highway Department is offering free sand and sandbags at the follow locations:

  • Ash Centre – World Baseball Academy parking lot at 1701 Freeman St.
  • Southwest Conservation Club at 5703 Bluffton Rd.

Sandbags are available on a first-come basis and you will need to bring your own shovel.

Two additional pumps have also been placed to protect from possible street flooding. Tuesday afternoon City Utilities crews placed and turned on a pump on Gardendale and placed another at Barr Street. Here’s a list of pumps placed

  • Hartman Road (pumping)
  • Wheaton Drive (Harris Elementary School) (pumping)
  • Vesey Park (pumping)
  • Hemlock and Knightsway (pumping)
  • Gardendale/Decatur Road (pumping)
  • Tillman Road/Calhoun Street (placed)
  • Bar Street (at the river) (placed)
  • Belle Vista Boulevard/Corvalis Avenue (placed)
  • Fernwood Avenue/Dalevue Drive (placed)
