HARTFORD CITY, Ind. (AP) _ Purdue Extension experts will hold a program in east-central Indiana on Friday aimed at helping farmers to better understand issues resulting from flooded crops and ways to help them recover.

The meeting will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lake Placid Christian Conference Center in Hartford City, about 20 miles north of Muncie. The meeting comes less than a week after Gov. Mike Pence asked U.S. Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack to declare 53 of Indiana's 92 counties disaster areas because of crop damage and losses caused by flooding.

Among the experts attending will be Purdue Extension corn specialist Bob Nielsen, Ohio State University assistant professor Laura Lindsey to talk about soybean crop issues and Purdue Extension agricultural economist Chris Hurt to talk about the effect on markets.
