Prosecutor Drops 63 Cases After Officer’s Arrest

MADISON, Ind. (AP): A southern Indiana prosecutor says he'll dismiss more than five dozen criminal cases investigated by an officer who's been arrested on domestic violence charges.

Madison police Officer Josh Abbott was arrested last week on the felony charges, including one count alleging that he pointed a gun at his girlfriend.

Jefferson County Prosecutor Chad Lewis says he's dropping charges in 63 cases in which Abbott was involved, including some involving drunken driving, theft and drug charges. Twenty-nine of the cases included felony charges.

The Madison Courier reports Abbott made most of the arrests following traffic stops.

Two of the people who were arrested were being held in the county jail. Sheriff John Wallace says they were released Monday.
