Propane Blast Cause of Fire That Killed Clinton Co. Pair

FRANKFORT, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say a propane explosion caused the fire that leveled a Clinton County home, killing the couple that lived there.

Clinton County Coroner Amanda Abbott identified the victims Tuesday as 63-year-old Charles Benefiel and 58-year-old Linda Benefiel, She says an autopsy revealed the two likely died from inhaling superheated air.

The couple was inside the rural home southwest of Frankfort when it exploded Friday afternoon.

State Fire Marshal's Office investigator Tim Murray has concluded a liquid propane explosion occurred inside the home. However, because of extensive damage, he says neither the source of the propane leak nor what ignited the blast can be determined.

Murray says there's no sign of foul play. He says that while the explosion is believed to be accidental, the official cause has been ruled undetermined.
