Procession Planned for Fallen Firefighter

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Memorial plans for a fallen Fort Wayne Firefighter are being finalized.

Local firefighters and other public safety agencies from around the area will pay their final respects to Nate Mills Friday afternoon with a procession that leading from the funeral in Huntington to Fort Wayne.

The route will stretch from State Road 1 to Airport Expressway then to Lafayette Street and finally into downtown Fort Wayne.

Mills, had been battling a re-occurrence of melanoma since 2012, he had served with the Fort Wayne Fire Department since 2006. Mills lost his battle Sunday.

WOWO will follow the procession, we'll keep you updated along the route so you can view it as it makes its way through the community.


Mills' wife Rocky, issued the following statement:

“It is with sincere gratitude I thank everyone: the Fort Wayne Fire Department, many other fire departments and public safety entities, our friends and even strangers who have reached out and offered their condolences to our family. Please know that the sympathy you have extended to our family has not gone unnoticed. It is these kind gestures, large and small, that will comfort us in the difficult days ahead. We continue to ask for privacy as we prepare to say “so long” to Nate. We thank you!”
