Princeton Man Gets Life for Killing Ex-Girlfriend’s Father

PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) – A southwestern Indiana man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend's father.

A Gibson County judge ordered the sentenced Thursday for Austin Blaize of Francisco. A jury convicted Blaize in August of murder and other charges in the January 2013 killing of 47-year-old Terry Monier at the older man's home near the town of Fort Branch about 20 miles north of Evansville.

The Princeton Daily Clarion reports county Prosecutor Rob Krieg argued Blaize deserved the life sentence because he waited at the home for his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend to arrive, shot twice at that man and continues to assert that the couple killed the woman's father.

Defense attorney Ivan Arnaez says an appeal of the conviction and sentence is planned.
