Pressure Cooker Prompts Lafayette Parking Garage Evacuation

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ A sheriff says a suspicious package at a Lafayette parking garage that prompted the evacuation of nearby buildings turning out to be a pressure cooker full of pork.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff Barry Richard says a maintenance worker discovered the package “in a suspicious area'' while cleaning the sixth floor of the parking garage Monday morning.

He says the Tippecanoe County Bomb Squad was placed on standby until a bailiff and former deputy saw no sign that the pressure cooker had been modified into a bomb.

Richard says it's always better to be safe than sorry.
