Police Standoff on Stratton Road

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Around 10 Sunday night, police responded to a home on Stratton Road where a man was making suicide threats. The man was reportedly intoxicated and had access to firearms inside the home. When officers arrived on the scene and weren’t able to make contact with the man, The Emergency Services Team (EST) and Crisis Response Team (CRT) were called to assist in the investigation.

Officials made several attempts to communicate with the man, but ended up having to use tear gas to lure him out of the home. When that didn’t work, EST members finally went in the house and took the man into custody just after 3 this morning.  He was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Stratton Road was closed to all traffic during the five hour-standoff.  During a subsequent search, firearms were discovered inside the home.  This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department.
