Police Say Man Killed After Bat Attack on Woman

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Police say gunfire broke out at an Indianapolis home after a man started beating his girlfriend's mother with a baseball bat, with that man being killed and two other people wounded.

The shooting happened about 12:15 a.m. Monday after what police say was a family gathering at the home on the city's southwest side. City police spokesman Rafael Diaz says a woman was shot in the face and hospitalized in critical condition, while a man was hospitalized in stable condition with head and shoulder wounds.

Diaz says a man who was told to leave after a fight with his girlfriend's family later returned with others and began the beating attack. The woman's husband began shooting from the house and those with the man returned fire.
