Police say child driver struck local bar

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne Police say a 10-year-old boy was driving when a car struck a local bar Wednesday night.

Our Partners in News at ABC 21 say Lachawn D. Love, a passenger in the Chrysler 300, had been drinking and claimed he was “teaching his nephew to drive” in the police report.

Police responded to a call of a reckless driver just before 8:30 p.m. near West Jefferson Blvd. and Freeman Street.

Police pulled the car over in a parking lot outside Hobo’s Bar and Grill in the 2700 block of W. Jefferson Blvd. before the car sped up and struck the front of the building.

Love reportedly told police that his nephew begged to let him drive. Two other people were in the car.

Love is facing three counts of neglect of a dependent.
