Police Say Child Died with Indiana Baby Sitter

LOOGOOTEE, Ind. (AP): State police say the death of an 11-month-old child while in the care of a southern Indiana baby sitter is under investigation.

Sgt. Philip Hensley says an autopsy is planned on the child who died Wednesday in Loogootee.

Hensley says the baby sitter told investigators she had placed the child into a car seat, but unfastened the crotch buckle when she realized the child's diaper needed changed.

The baby sitter told police she left the room for less than two minutes, returning to find the child had slid down in the seat and been choked by the seat harness.

Hensley says the baby sitter tried to perform CPR on the child until emergency workers arrived in the city about 60 miles northeast of Evansville.
