Police Detonate Bag at Indianapolis Courthouse

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Authorities have detonated what they called a suspicious bag that was found outside the federal courthouse in downtown Indianapolis.

City police spokesman Officer Michael Hewitt says bomb squad investigators believe the back pack contained fireworks and drug paraphernalia. He says the back pack was spotted by a security guard about 2:45 a.m. Monday along the sidewalk outside the courthouse that’s a block from Monument Circle.

Hewitt says a police dog indicated explosives were present in the bag, leading to the decision to detonate it about 5 a.m. He says no threat had been made and police didn’t immediately know who might’ve left the back pack there.

Streets alongside the courthouse were closed until after the bag was detonated. No injuries were reported.
