Police cite 267 at Terre Haute diesel event

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP): Police patrolling the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza in Terre Haute arrested or cited 267 people over the weekend, down markedly from previous years.

Sgt. Joe Watts of the Indiana State Police said Sunday that troopers issued 167 citations, including nine for driving under the influence and 27 arrests for crimes including various drug and alcohol violations.

State police cited 538 people at the event last year and 755 people in 2012.

The Indiana State Excise Police also patrolled this year's event and report citing or arresting 100 people on 103 charges including criminal recklessness, illegal possession or consumption of alcohol, furnishing alcohol to minors and various drug-possession charges.

The Scheid Diesel Extravaganza draws thousands of diesel truck enthusiasts from several states for truck and tractor pulls and related events.
