Police Chase Stolen Van from Ohio to Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Police went on a high-speed chase Saturday afternoon after a car was stolen from New Haven, IN.

In Van Wert County Ohio, a man pulled over in a van to help another driver, 27-year-old Brian Collins, who went off the road. When the man got out of his van, Collins got out of his disabled car and took off in the van.

The van was traced by a police officer all the way back to US-30 and Franke Rd in New Haven. During a routine traffic stop, Collins pulled over in the stolen van and then sped back onto the road.

Officer Kevin Hamrick with the New Haven Police Department followed Collins to northbound I-469 and State Road 17. A Fort Wayne Police officer began to track the vehicle when Collins exited at I-469 and Maplecrest Rd.

After avoiding spike strips, Collins went back onto the freeway to I-69. Collins got off the freeway at Dupont Rd. in Fort Wayne, and was arrested on the exit ramp.

A female passenger in the van was also arrested. Collins faces charges in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio, and is currently held at the Allen County Jail.
