Police Chase Begins in Noble County, Ends in Fort Wayne

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A police chase that began in Noble County ended in Fort Wayne after a suspect was tased. At 12:42 A.M. Wednesday, the Noble County Sheriff's Department received a call about a disturbance at the Chain O Lakes State Park. Deputies were told that an intoxicated man, who has since been identified as Charlie Marcum II of Fort Wayne, was driving around the park and that he had a lifetime license suspension. A short time later, Marcum drove up to the front gate of the entrance to leave the park. Deputies told the suspect to stop and get out of the vehicle. He refused and led police on a chase that eventually went on US 33 into Fort Wayne. A Churubusco Police Officer put down spike strips and took out the vehicle's front passenger side tire. The chase continued until the vehicle merged onto Goshen Rd before turning onto St. Mary's Avenue where there was a dead end. Marcum stopped the vehicle and started running. He was tased and taken into custody, then transported to Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville. At the hospital, Marcum tried several times to escape but was eventually subdued. He was later taken to the Noble County Jail. Officials say charges related to Operating a Vehicle as a Habitual Traffic Violator, Resisting Law Enforcement wwith a vehicle, Operating While Intoxicated, and Battery to a Police Officer Resulting in Bodily Injury are being submitted to the Noble County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
