Pence Seeks Review to Simplify Indiana Tax Code

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Gov. Mike Pence says he wants to review Indiana's taxes to simplify them and promote economic development.

Pence said Tuesday he would like to work with state lawmakers and others to conduct a comprehensive review of Indiana's tax laws. His comments came as tax experts and conservative thought leaders met for a tax summit in Indianapolis organized by the governor.

Speaking at the summit, anti-tax activist Grover Norquist said that any overhaul of a tax code should not be used to hide tax increases. National tax expert Jim Eads told attendees that comprehensive tax reform is often talked about, but seldom achieved.

Pence has had limited success pushing tax cuts through the General Assembly despite the supermajorities that Republicans hold in both the House and Senate.
