Pence Pleased by State Investigation Into Planned Parenthood

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Gov. Mike Pence says is pleased with the swift and professional manner the Indiana State Department of Health conducted an investigation into Planned Parenthood abortion clinics in Indiana, fining they were complying with state regulations on the handling of fetal tissue.

Pence told reporters Friday he requested the investigation because he wanted to reassure Indiana residents that the clinics were in compliance with state laws. He ordered an investigation of Planned Parenthood facilities after an anti-abortion group circulated a video it made secretly showing its officials discussing how they obtain organs from aborted fetuses for research. Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest provider of abortions, has said its donations of fetal tissue for research are legal.

Pence said he hopes the U.S. Senate will approve legislation halting funding of Planned Parenthood.
