Pence Appellate Court Appointee Sworn In

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Judge Robert R. Altice Jr. has been sworn in as the newest member of Indiana's Court of Appeals.

Altice, who had served as a Marion County judge since 2001, was appointed to the state's second-highest court by Republican Gov. Mike Pence. He is replacing retiring Judge Ezra H. Friedlander.

As a member of the state's appellate court, Altice will be tasked with reviewing decisions made by lower courts that are later appealed.

Altice was selected from a pool of three candidates recommended to the governor by the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission.

While Altice was sworn in Wednesday, he won't be formally robed until Sept. 21 during a ceremony in the Indiana Supreme Court.
