Pedestrian Dies When Hit by Indianapolis Squad Car

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Police say a squad car struck and killed a pedestrian who had walked into traffic on an Indianapolis street.

The crash happened Thursday night at an intersection on the city’s northeast side. City police Officer Michael Hewitt says the squad car wasn’t on an emergency run appears to have had a green light at the intersection when the pedestrian stepped from the curb and the patrolman wasn’t able to avoid hitting him.

The impact of the crash smashed the squad car’s windshield and caved in the front section of its roof. Police didn’t immediately release information about the victim.

Witness Marcus Brown told WTHR-TV that he didn’t see any brake lights from the squad car until after the pedestrian hit the top of the car.
