Pay Glitch for Terre Haute City Workers Unresolved

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP): Officials in Terre Haute are still sorting out computer problems that prevented direct deposit of paychecks for hundreds of city workers last week.

City controller Leslie Ellis says about 70 checks for savings account deposits were still being prepared Monday for printing Tuesday. Many of the some 570 city employees received printed paychecks that were distributed Friday and Saturday.

Ellis tells the Tribune-Star that she hadn't yet been able to research what caused the computer problem. She says dozens of pension checks were either being mailed or manually deposited into bank accounts this week.

Mayor Duke Bennett says he doesn't expect the problem to continue and that city staffers will work this week on figuring out what happened.
