Parkview Field expands protective netting for 2016 baseball season

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It’s going to be a little safer to sit in the stands at Parkview Field starting this upcoming season.

That’s because the protective netting behind the batter’s box will be expanded. The netting will now be extended to the far end of each dugout, covering Sections 103, 104, 112, and 113. Previously, only fans in Sections 105-111 were protected by the nets.

This follows a recommendation in December by Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred to expand netting at ballparks to protect fans from flying bats and baseballs that sail into the stands from the field of play. TinCaps President Mike Nutter says they’ve actually been planning this expansion since last season.

The netting will be ready for Opening Day, which is set for April 9th.

This is great! I always worry about getting hit with a bat or a ball. I do watch the game and pay attention but there are moments when I do take my eyes off the ball. So glad ball parks are starting to do this.
