Paper straw maker opening new plant

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): A paper straw manufacturer in Fort Wayne says it’s opening a new plant in northeastern Indiana and expects to add more than 100 jobs.

The announcement came Thursday from Aardvark Straws. The company says in a statement that their new 100,000-plus-square-foot Fort Wayne facility on Innovation Blvd. should be operating in February and will replace their existing factory.

The company had said in August it could end up expanding its workforce, and now they say the new facility will increase their capacity by 700%.

Its products are an alternative to plastic straws, which are being banned or restricted in some places. Aardvark is the only paper straw maker in the United States.
