Owner Plans Farming on Old Muncie Foundry Site

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ The new owner of a longtime Muncie industrial site wants to start up agricultural production on the property.

Michael Wolfe says he plans to turn the former Frank Foundry land into a composting collection area and eventually make space available for vegetable and fruit production and livestock farming.

Wolfe tells The Star Press that volunteers with the Farmished nonprofit group he created plan to removed unusable structures that remain on the 10-acre property after several fires in recent years. The foundry started in 1898 and was in operation until 1985.

Wolfe says the plan is to collect compostable materials from local restaurants and grocery stores and make compost available to the public by next summer.
