BURNS HARBOR, Ind. (AP) – The Indiana Department of Transportation is warning northern Indiana motorists to avoid a slow-moving, oversize load traveling from northwestern Indiana to the Ohio line over five nights.

INDOT says the 185-mile trip is expected to begin after 8 p.m. Thursday near Burns Harbor in Porter County. It says short-term closures of cross streets are necessary, and police may block all directions of traffic in places where the oversize load may need to use the opposing side of the road.

The first leg of the trips follows Indiana 249 south to U.S. 12, east to Indiana 49, south to U.S. 6, east to U.S. 421, and south to U.S. 30 just east of U.S. 35. 

The load will travel on U.S. 30 and Indiana Routes 9 and 124 the remaining nights.
