Op-Ed: Roe’s End Will Mark New Beginning for Pro-Life Movement

Op-Ed: Protecting Life – The Duty of Any Responsible Government

No right is more sacred than the right to life. Every other right depends on it. That’s why protecting life should be the first duty of any responsible government.

In 1973, seven unelected justices did permanent damage to the reputation of the Supreme Court by banning states from writing their own abortion laws.  For decades, their indefensible ruling in Roe v. Wade denied Hoosiers the right to protect the lives of the unborn

Regrettably, President Biden has embraced the left’s anti-life agenda. His nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court is the latest example. In 2001, Judge Jackson co-authored an amicus brief in support of a Massachusetts law that limited the rights of pro-life protesters. She has also received glowing endorsements from Planned Parenthood and NARAL, two of the country’s most vocal and radical pro-abortion organizations. It’s clear that Judge Ketanji Jackson stands firmly against the pro-life movement.

But there is reason to be hopeful. Conservatives retain their two-seat majority on the Supreme Court, and it is a simple matter of fact that the constitution of the United States does not include a right to abortion.

This year, nearly five decades after Roe, the Supreme Court could right its wrong and give voters a say in this extremely important issue. By the end of their current term the court is expected to rule on the Dobbs v. Jackson case, which would decide, “Whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional.”

Legislators must recognize that the end of Roe v. Wade only marks the beginning of the most important chapter in the history of the pro-life movement.

If Roe is overturned, many liberal states are likely to continue the status quo and demand taxpayer-subsidized abortion with few restrictions. But Hoosiers have better values.

In recent years Indiana has already moved to protect life within the confines of Roe v. Wade. As the possibilities for pro-life legislation expand, so should the Indiana General Assembly’s ambition.

If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, the Indiana legislature has suggested calling a special session to protect unborn Hoosiers. I would strongly encourage Governor Holcomb to take them up on that request. There can be no higher calling or more important purpose.

Returning this power to Hoosiers is an unmitigated good, and I call on Indiana’s legislature and Governor Holcomb to stand by our values and principles and protect the most vulnerable among us. The unborn cannot speak for themselves. We are obliged to speak for them and to protect their right to life.

From the 2nd Paragraph of the Declaration of Independence:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –”

The prime duty of any government is to SECURE RIGHTS. Among those rights are LIFE, LIBERTY, and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.

Murder by abortion is not a right. Judge Jackson will be an abomination to this country for she does in fact believe the law is whatever the Court says it is. Once on SCOTUS who will be there to keep her in line by overturning her decisions?

Every woman should have the right to control her own body. this should not be the purview of the government. If Roe v Wade is overturned where does the responsibility of the man that got the woman pregnant lie? Who will take care of the pregnant woman and the child? Will the state of Indiana take responsibility for making sure the woman and the child receive care?

It’s one thing for the Evangelical right wing to say they are anti-abortion but it is entirely a different matter to force those views on others.

TO DOUG WAGES AND OTHERS THAT WILL RESPOND…THE BEST THING TO AVOID GETTING PREGNANT IS NO SEX, RUBBERS, BIRTH CONTROL PILLS, KEEP A LOG EACH MONTH WHEN IT WILL BE SAVE TO NOT GET PREGNANT….WHAT RIGHT DOES ANY FEMALE HAVE TO KILL A VIABLE GROWING HUMAN BEING IN HER WOMB! FOR SOME THRILL THAT LASTS FOR A FEW SHORT MINUTES DOESN’T QUALITY ANY WOMAN TO KILL A FUTURE CHILD. THAT SAYING ABOUT A WOMAN CONTROLING HER OWN BODY ALSO MEANS THAT THE DEED IS HER RESPONSIBILITY TO NOT GET PREGNANT! I ALSO THINK THAT THERE SHOULD BE NO ABORTION CLINICS IN THE USA. WHO SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE WOMAN AND CHILD??? WHOSE THE DADDY..LOL JUST SAY ‘NO’ IF YOUR FUTURE COULD CHANGE BECAUSE YOU TOOK THAT CHANCE!

I think you and fellow Republicans are wrong…..my body my choice. All those who want to repeal this would better use their time holding a crack baby going through withdrawal..
fostering children in cps ,those who have physical and mental disabilities to those who forced to carry to term the product of rape or incest. I don’t believe abortion as a form of birth control there are many reliable forms out there. I DO BELIEVE I HAVE A RIGHT WHEN IT COMES TO WHAT GOES ON WITH MY BODY !!!!!

Our nation “under God” has prospered beyond any previous civilization ever attempted on planet Earth. The founding fathers weren’t perfect, but many of them came here to escape leadership which controlled and denied an individual’s right to worship a God who gave His created men and women a a choice– to walk with Him in loving obedience and harmony with others or put our desires ahead of everyone else. It’s no accident that “I” is the letter in the center of s”I”n.

In so doing, He knew many would choose to follow our own, self-centered, sinful nature and put ourselves first. Did he leave us here to self-destruct? No…He had a plan “from the foundation of the world”. His only, sinless Son, Jesus, was slain to be our sacrifice for sin. Before He came to give us New Life, the Father taught those who would listen to look forward to His coming sacrifice. After His death to blot out our sin, He taught us to look back and gave all who accepted His death for their sin, New Life, for here and hereafter, and His Holy Spirit within.

When we realize we have a fatal disease, we seek a cure. God has provided a cure for the fatal disease of SIN, but He still gives us a choice. He gave us Ten Rules for successful living in freedom with others. When we violate any one of these, we create havoc and the results are obvious all around us. When we put God and His way first in our life, we know blessings and harmony with God and others. When we don’t, we deny that He knows what is best. We hate others, kill unborn babies, steal, and destroy all that is good.

Sex is a beautiful gift between loving, committed men and women. Outside of its God-honoring parameters, it can be one of life’s most destructive activities with far-reaching negative consequences.

Rape, incest, or an unwanted child…it is a woman’s choice. If this choice is stopped, then the back alley chop shops will take over. I do not think the tax payers should pay for this service but I do thin k it should be a matter of choice…

So yet again Mr. Banks you completely miss what Roe V Wade is really about, and that’s a right to privacy. That is what the ruling is about, that a woman has the right to choose what happens to her body. But you ignore that because this is all about your push for Theocracy. If you really cared about government protecting life you’d help pass laws to help new norms, their families, better education reform, better pay for teachers, and the list goes on. You are no different than any other religious zealot, you cry wolf at others to strike fear here at home to further your religious agenda.

I have a Master’s in Public Health, and I studied Developmental Anatomy in pre-med courses. But the science doesn’t matter; it’s a political agenda you are up against. And many don’t care if the unborn is a human life or not. Maybe a plastic doll. But if we have really had 60 mil abortions since 70 or so, it’s a sign of mass immorality, no responsibility, and ridiculous promiscuity. On the part of males as well. I feel to change that, you need to look at the root cause. Changing root causes is nearly impossible. But why has contraception not been employed more successfully? By both sexes? You won’t have abortion without males who are key players and maybe responsible for much unwanted sexual activities. I support abortion as a medical procedure when it involves rape, incest, mother’s health etc. That is only reasonable. And those unborn are under the care of God eternally. But ironically, there are many people out there who have mothers who were abused sexually, were victims of incest, who were not prepared to have a child, but who accepted a tough responsibility with or without some “guy” hanging around. These are the saints in this situation. There are many. At Mother’s Day we should applaud them. And at Mother’s Day we should also have empathy for the millions of women who maybe have great regret or who were convinced by some that the unborn is not life. Current abortion habits as “normal” birth control en masse is not acceptable at all. Not morally and not scientifically. The key to saving life is not just arguing politics and Roe v. Wade. The key is awareness, education, protecting our kids from influences in the schools, personal responsibility, and changing behavior. Maybe some are open to moral alternatives, but “good luck’ in this environment. “Free love” is here to stay.
