Oldest Indiana resident celebrates 110th birthday Sunday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Did you know that Indiana's oldest person is right here in Fort Wayne?

Not only that, but Ollie Roberts will be celebrating her 110th birthday on Sunday, meaning that she will be Indiana's only 'supercentarian'. She will be one of only 52 people in the world that will be 110 years of age or older. By the way, only one of those 52 are male.

Roberts was born in Garrett, Kentucky but lived 70 years of her life in Columbia City. She currently lives at Lutheran Life Village's Pine Valley campus. Her two children, Paul Welch and Barbara McNulty, are both in their seventies. Roberts also has eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren.

Those close to Roberts say that she is as sharp and perceptive as someone decades younger than her. She attributes her long life to both hard work as well as a deep belief in God. Nowadays, she spends her time crocheting and making hand-sewn quilts.
