Ohio Governor Mike DeWine facing impeachment over COVID-19 overreach

COLUMBUS, OH. (WOWO): For the second time this year, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is facing impeachment after several Republican lawmakers filed articles to remove him in Columbus on Monday.

A total of 12 articles of impeachment have been filed alleging abuse of power. State Representative John Becker was joined in the filing by three other lawmakers who cite DeWine’s vetoing of two bills, one of which would strip him of seemingly unfettered power to level health orders and shut businesses down.

In a statement released to media and on Facebook, Becker said “Governor DeWine’s mismanagement, malfeasance, misfeasance, abuse of power, and other crimes include, but are not limited to, meddling in the conduct of a presidential primary election, arbitrarily closing and placing curfews on certain businesses, while allowing other businesses to remain open. He weaponized the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation to bully and harass businesses and the people; to enforce a statewide mask mandate and other controversial measures of dubious “value,” making Ohio a hostile work environment.”

Becker went on to say that DeWine has “had the further audacity to include congregants of places of worship, forcing citizens to choose between worshipping their God and worshipping at the altar of unbridled government”.

His statement also went on to say that the Governor’s controversial mask mandate, which has existed since early summer, is viewed by many Ohioans as “degrading, humiliating and insulting”. Becker cited evidence that masks can be a health hazard by retaining bacteria, viruses, and creating panic attacks and other psychological difficulties.

“Rather than hearing the cries of Ohioans, Governor DeWine continues to stifle those cries by finding more inventive ways to use masks to muffle the voices of the people,” said Representative Becker in the statement. “He continues to have callous disregard for the fact that his isolation policies have led to a shockingly high number of suicides, alarming rates of drug abuse, persistently high unemployment, and the forced abandonment of the elderly by their loved ones.”

The case now goes to the full House of Representatives where a simple majority of members must vote to send it to trial in the Ohio Senate. A two-thirds majority of the Ohio Senate would have to vote to convict and remove DeWine.

What the hell is wrong with people that now DeWine is facing impeachment for his mask mandate? I for one don’t want it left up to individuals to “decide what’s best for themselves” or “exercise their freedom” to put me and others at risk for a virus that can either kill or just basically ruin your life? I’ve been on a white-knuckle drive these past 10 years building my practice and I’ll be damned if some snowflake is going to insist that their personal temporary comfort is more important my right to be safe from that risk. People with zero medical education should not be allowed to make decisions that affect not only themselves but everybody that they may share the air with. When you’re facing an unprecedented situation where people’s lives are at risk, and you have limited information, you err on the side of caution, not act like it’s not going to affect you. Just stfu and wear your mask. You’ll survive.

I Absolutely agree with you..I believe Mike Dewine is doing the best job that he can..I just dont undetstand these people thinking are…If you want someone or somthing to blame the politicians in Washington, not getting off their asses and not getting a whorth while stimulus package passed so these businesses have money to fall back on if the Governor has to shut down things a bit. No to low interest loans to get them by until iits safe to open..That’s what basically driving.all this…The lawmakers in Washington should be there held accountable when they feel one of their greatest achievements in the last month or so is getting Amy Barret pushed thru to the supreme court..I am not saying she doesnt belong there, but doesnt the welfare of the sz American people come first???? Pass this.stimulus now Help people get back on their feet, Help small buisness keep their lively good going , help the states with more funding so they can do what they need to do ,to get the vaccines distributed ..So they dont have to worry economic hardship and have to worry about canceling programs and budget cutting…The lawmakers need to pull their heads out of their asses and not worry Bout their political agenda and worry about the American people, then and.only then we will succeed pulling this great country back up off the ground…

“no randomized controlled trials (RCT) on the use of masks as source control for SARS-CoV-2 has been published”
– Center for Disease Control

There are no RCTs that have been done to evaluate the impact of masks on community transmission during a coronavirus pandemic
– Center for Disease Control

The positive impact of public mask wearing on this is “scientifically plausible but uncertain”.

I for one, believe unlike you and Mike Dewine, that public policy should be based upon science, not your fear of what might happen.

Ditto for the joke of climate change.

Leave Governor Dewine alone. He is our only hope concerning those that dont want to abide by his decisions….

Are you kidding me?
Governor DeWine has done a great job keeping us safe. He is a real human with a real heart and deep feelings for Ohioans. He remained calm in the midst of this pandemic and made good choices in trying to slow the spread of this horrible virus. Put yourself in his place. He made the best decisions he could based on the data he had at the time of those decisions. Time and time again, stay safe. A very clear message that didn’t choose sides.
Stop blaming DeWine. Do you think he chose this?

I totally agree with Monica!! I can’t believe how dumb some people are about masks, it’s “degrading, insulting and humiliating!” Think of what it’s going to be like to be put on a ventilator, when your gasping for air and all that’s left is to hook you up to a machine to breath for you! How do you think you will feel , when you have to die alone? DeWine has done an outstanding job in this pandemic, if everyone just wore their masks instead of acting like fools, we could have had better control! We need to thank him, not impeach him!!

I for one, enjoyed living free for the last 58 years. I’m ashamed of the “new norm” and the communists running this state!!! If masks work, why was prisoners released early to prevent the spread? If the test are accurate, how did Dewine test positive and then 3 hours later test negative?
Something to think about and do some research on. It took 16 years after the Spanish Flu outbreak of 1918 to get a vaccine and another 11 years to be used widespread in the United States. Now I know scientists have made leaps and bounds in the 100 years, but come on!!! One year for a vaccine!!??!! If you can believe that can happen, then why isn’t things such as cancer and heart disease not cured yet??

Ohio Senate, do not vote to impeach Governor Dewine! I don’t enjoy wearing a mask, either; but I have no right to risk exposing people with whom I come in contact to an infection that can be quite serious for people in some categories, including some categories to which I belong. I can be a carrier – you can be a carrier – without being ill or having symptoms. Quoting a comment from above: wear the damn mask! Just look at the statistics regarding zip codes with the highest number of infections in Franklin County being near Ohio State University where large numbers of people congregate. Look at the number of COVID cases in President Trump’s inner circle following maskless events. It is not safe right now to be in a conversational distance from someone, breathing into their faces while we talk, with this pandemic going on. Some businesses such as bars and restaurants make that more likely which understandably why such businesses are more likely to be closed than others. I do regret that the federal government didn’t get additional financial assistance to people whose jobs have been most affected by this pandemic. And, I do have sympathy for families having a hard time visiting relatives. I am glad some families have found suitable even if second-best work-arounds. I supported Dr. Acton. I support Governor Dewine and his recently appointed medical leadership personnel and encourage all to heed the scientists and infectious disease experts.

I think governor Dewine has done a great job dealing with the importance of the public and the virus. For any Ohio politicians who want to impeach the governor if I have anything to do with you getting reelected you can kiss your ass goodbye weather your Republican or Democrat or independent I will vote against you period. As far as people wearing a mask its your provocative I won’t debate some fucking moron for not wearing their mask but remember this if you contract the virus remember that most people die a painful death. When me and my brothers were growing up I used to tell my younger brother who had become a diabetic at 9 years old when i seen him in bars drinking and doing cocaine to the point of addiction that he needs get his shit together and he would say it’s my life and I will do what I want. My response to was that’s but when you become older and start to go blind and they start hacking off your remember I told you so. WELL HE DIED THIS PAST MARCH AT AGE 54 BUT NOT UNTIL HE WENT NEAR BLIND AND THEY CHOPPED OFF HIS LEFT LEG DID HE SAY TO ME YOU WERE RIGHT IN EVERYTHING YOU USE TO SAY ME. As sorry I am that I didn’t listen to you I’m glad I did it my way because this short life ive had was like a normal life. Three days later they cut off his other leg and at that point he told me he didn’t want to live anymore and a month later he got the flu and died. I miss him every day and those of you that will surely die when you contract the Corona virus most probably for not wearing a little mask and then your family and I will miss greatly so put on a fucking mask please!!!!!!
