Ohio Attorney General to File Death Penalty Report

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP): Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine is planning to release his office's annual review of capital punishment statistics in the state.

The report to the state Legislature comes as Ohio and other states face dwindling supplies of the drugs used to put condemned inmates to death. DeWine planned to release the capital punishment report Tuesday under a requirement of the state's death penalty law enacted in 1981.

Ohio also is under criticism for its most recent execution. In January, death row inmate Dennis McGuire made repeated snorting-like gasps during the 26 minutes it took him to die by a never tried two-drug combo.

Ohio's next execution is May 28, when Arthur Tyler is scheduled to die for killing a produce vendor in Cleveland during a 1983 robbery.
