FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Patients of an embattled Fort Wayne pain doctor are still trying to find new doctors and new forms of treatment.

Dr. Michael Cozzi’s medical license has been suspended because of a federal investigation into accusations that he has been overprescribing pain meds like oxycodone and hydrocodone, including to patients who were showing signs of addiction, some of which died from overdoses.

Our partners in news at 21Alive say the Allen County Health Commissioner is having difficulty finding new doctors and treatment for Cozzi’s 1,700 patients, partially because some of them turned to pain meds for things like anxiety or depression instead.

Health officials are asking those involved to try and remain patient while the investigation continues.
