FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The number of refugees resettling in Fort Wayne has dropped over the past couple of years.
According to the Associated Press and the Journal Gazette, federal officials plan on sending 130 refugees to Fort Wayne this fiscal year.
To compare, that’s down from 268 in fiscal year 2016 and 121 last year.
Most of the refugees in the city are Burmese, but officials say there are less Burmese applying for asylum thanks to democratic reforms in their home country. The city is also receiving refugees from the National Republic of Congo.
The state’s refugee coordinator says most refugees come to Fort Wayne to live with family members already here.

Actually, it represents a slight increase over last year. It is lower in number than two years ago, but the headline is somewhat misleading.
