Notre Dame to Open New Facility in Rome

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): The University of Notre Dame is planning a ceremony in Rome next week to mark the opening of a new facility it says is aimed at creating space for cultural and intellectual exchange.

The school says the new Global Gateway is in a renovated building one block from the Colosseum. Architecture students and professional staff moved into the facility in January.

The university says the new facility will allow it to expand the architecture program, build other programs and host academic conferences, workshops, seminars and faculty or graduate students conducting research.

University Vice President J. Nicholas Entrikin says the facility is an opportunity to have a global footprint and let the world know more about the school's research and teaching.

The blessing for the facility is scheduled for Wednesday.
