Notre Dame to Hold Crèche Pilgrimage on Campus

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – The University of Notre Dame will hold a crèche pilgrimage on Sunday where people can view and pray at 30 nativity scenes on exhibit throughout campus.

Notre Dame's Institute for Church Life Director John Cavadini says creches invite people into what Christian faith believes to be the most intimate moment between God and creation, the incarnation. That moment has been depicted at least since the fourth century, when Roman Christians began carving it on stone coffins of loved ones.

Crèches, from the Marian Library at the University of Dayton will be on display on campus at the Eck Center, McKenna Hall, the Morris Inn, the Main Building and the Hesburgh Library. The crèches were made in Asia, Africa, South America and Europe and will remain on exhibit until Jan. 31.
