Notre Dame to Hand Out Tickets for Hesburgh Memorial

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): The University of Notre Dame is making a limited number of tickets publicly available for the memorial service for the Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, the school's president from 1952 to 1987.

The free tickets will be available at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the box office at Purcell Pavilion in the Joyce Center on campus. They must be requested in person. The number of tickets available has not been disclosed.

Hesburgh died Thursday at age 97. The memorial service for Hesburgh is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Purcell Pavilion, which seats about 9,000 people. Students lined up for tickets Sunday.

A Tuesday night wake and Wednesday funeral Mass, which are invite-only, will be streamed on the school's website, as will the memorial service. A public visitation will take place from noon Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Basilica, pausing for the wake from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
