Next Week FWCS to Share Information with Parents Regarding Transportation Reductions

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Next week, Fort Wayne Community Schools will be hosting two meetings to share information with parents regarding some upcoming changes to transportation services provided.

FWCS is in the process of reducing transportation spending by $2.5 million by the 2015-16 school year. According to a media release from the district, the reduction is necessary because property tax caps, known as the Circuit Breaker, have prohibited FWCS from collecting more than $9 million for transportation since 2009. This loss is expected to double by 2017. At the same time, expenses continue to increase.

The meetings will be held at 6:00 p.m., December 1 and 2 in the Anthis Career Center auditorium, located at 1200 S. Barr St.

At the meetings December 1 and 2, FWCS leaders will share how the reductions will be made and the steps the district will take to inform parents if the reductions will affect them.

Additional meetings with more specific information will be held in January in each of the high school feeder areas. All meetings will begin at 6:00 p.m., according to the following schedule:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 6 – North Side High School

  • Wednesday, Jan. 7 – Snider High School

  • Thursday, Jan. 8 – Wayne High School

  • Tuesday, Jan. 13 – South Side High School

  • Wednesday, Jan. 14 – Northrop High School
