New Highway to Lafayette Nears Completion

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): The long-awaited Hoosier Heartland Highway project is set to be complete in the area.

INDOT say it will be open to traffic by the end of October. The four-lane highway extends 99 miles between Interstate 69 and Interstate 65 in Lafayette. When complete, it will end nearly 40 years of planning.  INDOT officials say it will be more convenient and safer with significantly less congestion.

The Hoosier Heartland Highway is the final link of a much larger 200 mile stretch that will connect with Toledo, Ohio.
