FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The man chosen to head up the Veterans Affairs Northern Indiana Health Care system in Fort Wayne was once the target of an official Army inquiry.

The Journal Gazette reports Michael Hershman was suspended from command at an Army hospital in 2013 while the surgeon general’s office investigated a complaint of discrimination and harassment.

However, any allegations against Hershman at the McDonald Army Health Center in Virginia were dismissed, and he even received a Legion of Merit medal for his work there.

He tells the newspaper Fort Wayne is a “perfect match” for his family, and he’s excited to get started in his new role on September 6th.
