Nearly 473,000 early votes cast so far in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana county clerks say they have received nearly 473,000 early voting ballots with a week to go before the Nov. 8 general election.

Tabulation of early voting by the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office shows clerks had received 472,707 ballots from people voting early as of Monday. That’s about 80 percent of the 590,445 total early votes cast in Indiana during the last presidential election four years ago and about 71 percent of the 662,443 people who voted early in 2008, when President Barack Obama was elected to his first term.

Some county election officials caution that the high level of interest in this year’s presidential race between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton may delay the final tabulation of Indiana votes until the day after the election.
