NE Indiana County Highway Chief Killed in Crash

ORLAND, Ind. (AP): Authorities say a northeastern Indiana county's highway superintendent was killed in a weekend motorcycle crash.

Steuben County officials say 66-year-old Kenny Penick of Orland had led its highway department for about 10 years.

The Sheriff's Department says Penick died of head injuries Saturday night when his motorcycle crashed into a car that had just turned from a county road onto Indiana 120 about a half mile from his home.

Police say Penick wasn't wearing a helmet. The driver and passenger in the car had minor injuries.

County Commissioner Loretta Smart tells The Herald Republican that Penick worked hard and always had the county in his heart.
