National list ranks Fort Wayne parks poorly

(Darrin Wright/1190 WOWO 107.5)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne’s parks system has found itself in unfamiliar territory: the bottom of the list.

In a blog post released today, the Trust for Public Land released its 2016 ParkScore Index, which ranks park systems in the 100 largest US cities. Fort Wayne came in at #98, but still technically last place since the cities ranked 99 and 100 didn’t provide any data for the study. The index ranks parks based on access, size, and facilities and investment.

Parks and Recreation Director Al Moll is disputing the list, telling the News-Sentinel the ranking is all about “first-time benchmarks” and has “nothing to do with performance.”
